The Peoples Republic of Venture

Welcome!

Announcements & Information.

7/15/08 - San Diego Comic Con, Jackson Publick & Spooky Chan

In case you didn't know, Jackson Publick will be attending the San Diego Comic Con. At this moment, he only seems to be listed for one panel on Friday.

Friday, July 25 - 5:30-6:15 [adult swim]’s The Venture Brothers— Jackson Publick (creator and voices of Hank Venture, The Monarch, Henchman 24, Pete White and Sgt. Hatred) and Mike Sinterniklaas (voice of Dean Venture) speak about [adult swim]’s original series, The Venture Brothers. Now in its third season, the show picked up after the explosive wedding of The Monarch and Dr. Girlfriend from the season two cliffhanger. Room 6B

Spooky Chan (who's amazing art work you've no doubt seen at the PRoV and in [adult swim] bumps) will also be at the San Diego Comic Con promoting her new comic. For more info about her schedule at the Archaia booth, check out her most recent MySpace blog. But since you can't buy her book because it won't actually be released until a after the con, you can still acquire one of her Venture Tiki prints, other original prints or nifty goodies. She is also available for commissioned work (pending details). If nothing else, stop by and tell her to "Go Team Venture!"

You can read more on her MySpace page - http://www.myspace.com/thegodmachinecomic

7/12/08 - Publick Nuisance Update • Scrotal Safety Commission Returns • Convention Information • New [adult swim] Monarch T-Shirt

With another update, Jackson Publick shares information on season 4 production and the effects of doing two seasons at the same time, as finishing work continues on season 3. Included is some discussion of the upcoming episodes and ratings, which have been very, very good. So stop by and read it for yourself.

Publick Nuisance LiveJournal

Scrotal Safety Commission Returns!

As many of you may have noticed, the link at www.venturebros.com to the Scrotal Safety Commission site has been down for a bit. Well now it's back in all it's glory at a new address:

www.scrotalsafetycommission.net

So if you need to learn about your scrotum and the fragile parcel they carry, stop and check it out.

Convention Updates

San Diego Comic Con - Jackson Publick will be attending the San Diego Comic Con. If you are also planning to attend and would like to meet up with other Venture Bros cosplayers, contact me and I will pass along the information to those who can attend. Unfortunately, I cannot attend.

Dragon*Con - Doc Hammer will be attending Dragon*Con in Atlanta. The People's Republic of Venture will also have a fan table set up again at Dragon*Con. Not only that, but the Dragon*Con Hospitality Con Suite will be hosting a wedding reception event for the Monarch and Dr. Girlfriend this year (tentatively on Sunday). We are looking for volunteers for both the fan table and this event, so if you think you will be available to help, please contact me via this website.

[adult swim] Monarch T-shirt

Newly unveiled in the [adult swim] shop is a Monarch logo t-shirt. Black with a simple red logo, this is the one design many of you have been waiting for. Reasonably priced, this shirt comes in sizes up to XXL

7/10/08 - Doc Hammer's Latest MySpace Blog

Yep, another blog from Doc on his MySpace page with wonderful news for those who like to attend conventions. With a busy schedule, compromises are being made with this result:

POINT: We both can't take like three or four days off to attend conventions together. Sure, we want to. And I know you want us to. Honestly, with the exception of cash or the promise of sexual congress, there is nothing better than being flanked by the Venture Brothers and getting your picture taken. And that sweet experience is only enforced when you proudly show your friends the picture and get to hear "Who's that guy?" and "Who's the pretentious dick in the sunglasses?"

So, as a solution, Jackson will Be attending the San Diego Comic Con, and I will be attending Atlanta's Dragon Con.

So east coast and west coast rejoice. We each get an opportunity to meet one of the guys. You can read the entire blog for yourself.

7/6/08 - MySpace Pages  •  Help Needed!

MySpace Pages

Periodically, I like to share with everyone some interesting Venture Bros related fan sites that I've run across. Two well themed MySpace pages that I've run across recently include:

Henchman #21 - http://www.myspace.com/henchman_21 - chocked full of images, clips and great blog, it's well worth checking out.

Doctor Girlfriend - http://www.myspace.com/doctr_girlfriend - another nicely themed this page has a clean looks with plenty of images to enjoy.

Looking for some HELP - Electronic/Robotic!

PLEASE HELP ME! - I want to build a novelty display for the Venture Bros fan table at Dragon*Con. But I need help. I want to create a device that when you push a button, a "vehicle" moves forward (approx 8" or so), then one of X number of recorded messages play and the vehicle returns to it's starting point. It sounds simple enough, but I don't know where to start or what to do.

Do you have any electronic skills? Can you help? Do you know of a kit that might be useful? Any suggestions at all?

All I need is:
Push a button.
Vehicle moves forward.
Random recorded message is played.
Vehicle returns to home position.

Please help if you can. Time is my enemy. You can contact me via the "Contact Us" button on this page.

Thank you,

7/4/08 - Happy Independence Day!

You'll find that the latest Venture Bros. episode is on the [adult swim] website Fix already.

Enjoy.

6/13/08 - Friday the 13th and Jackson Publick Updates His Livejournal • New Venture Bros Episode On The [adult swim] Fix

Again, Jackson Publick has updated his livejournal. Included is more information regarding the Shirt Club and shipping. Apparently Venture fans are overwhelming. And while the disclaimer says to allow 3 - 5 weeks shipping, they're doing everything they can to speed it up as much as possible. Not only that, but they've cleaned American Apparel out of their 2XL shirts for the Brock Samson Kodokan Blood Judo shirts!

And the newest episode of Venture Bros, The Invisible Hand of Fate, is now available on the [adult swim] website for viewing. So if you can't wait until Sunday to see the newest episode (and it is a doozy), you can try catching it on the Fix.

Happy viewing!

6/8/08 - More! More! More... Venture Bros!

New [as] Venture Bros T-Shirt!

That's right. In the [adult swim] shop there is also a Venture Bros t-shirt for sale. This one is a full color Venture Industries logo. Now don't confuse this with the Venture Bros Shirt Club, this is an item available through [adult swim].

More information about this shirt can be found in the shop section of the [adult swim] website.

4/8/08 - The Doctor Is Sin Rough Cut Transcript

Special thanks to Venture Bros Wiki administrator Nais for his tireless efforts with the wiki. And it is because of his efforts that those of you who missed the airing of the rough cut can now, at least, read the transcript.

The Doctor Is Sin Transcript

So check it out. And while you're there, browse around and add your own tidbits of information to the wiki.

4/4/08 - Jackson Publick Updates His Livejournal

The title for Jackson Publick’s lastest livejournal entry was "Sucker Punch". Appropriately, he describes his feelings over the airing of a 10 minute rough cut of an unaired Venture Bros episode (The Doctor is Sin). Although a bit shocked and surprised initially, he had this to say:

I’ve since warmed to the idea--because it reminds me that Adult Swim is a silly network that takes chances and has fun with itself, when I could have been working for some average, boring, anal network.

Included is more artwork from the show too. And he also let loose all sorts of valuable information regarding the show and production.

•  The fully finished version of  The Doctor is Sin has been turned in.

•  Season 3 is scheduled to start airing June 1st

•  Publick, Hammer, Urbaniak and Sinterniklaas will be at the NY Comic Con (April 19th). Publick and Hammer may be attending the San Diego Comic Con this year. No confirmation yet.

•  Publick and Hammer have an interview in Comic Foundry magazine.

And there you have it. Lots to look forward to. You can read more in detail at Jackson Publick’s livejournal, Publick Nuisance.

4/2/08 - Adult Swim Fools Us All!     or at least some of us.

For a lucky few who tuned in to watch the Aqua Teen Hunger Force Movie on [adult swim] in the early hours of April Fools, there was a treat instead of a trick. A rough cut section of one of the season 3 episodes of Venture Bros. was aired. Still needing some work, this gem was very much appreciated by those who saw it.

I missed it. Darn you sleep!

Maybe you missed it too. If so, broderickmortel has posted a rougher version on YouTube. So if you want to see what all the phenomenal hubbub was about, here it is (watch it while you can). But be warned... Spoilers ahead! And while they are fairly small, they are still spoilers. So watch, enjoy and be discreet in your discussions.

PRoV Rough Cut Discussion Thread

Monarch Takes Over The PRoV!

Apparently in a move of dastardly daring, The Monarch extended his wings and encased the People's Republic of Venture in his sticky web of rayon. Re-labeling the threads and forum, The Monarch's name was plastered everywhere, like a drunken socialite. Screaming obscenities, he ended up in a wrestling match with PRoV member Sylak, who was later found running from the compound screaming "bad touch!"

When questioned about the hacking of the forums and how much damage was done, forum administrator Nais was heard to say, "Damn, his eyebrows really are frickin' huge! Just look at those things, they're like aerial antennas. " Pressed for more details, Nais finally admitted that he hadn't really noticed too much with the sites, his attention being constantly drawn back to The Monarch's enormous eyebrows.

But there was damage done. Profjammypants was seen pantless and running across the lawn at 2am. Lil ed was found locked in a broom closet amongst a collection of broken Hummels. Mandy23 (who is actually 57) was later rescued from the break room where she and Kazz had been forced to sing karaoke Macarena for The Monarch's pleasure.

It took a little time, but eventually some order was restored. We want to thank Blzbulb and MurderFaceMesa for the beer and cheesy fries that were scarfed up during the cleaning. And a super big thanks to Tiny Joseph for cleaning up the barfed up beer and cheesy fries. We appreciate everyone's patience through this time of intense fluttering.

3/8/08 - Venture Bros + Kid Robot = Awesome!

After months of speculation and anticipation over the upcoming new [adult swim] themed blind box figures, Kid Robot just announced the other day exactly what figures would be included in the series.

Kid Robot Takes On Adult Swim In New Figure Line

Limited-Edition 3" Blind Box Mini-Figures Available in 18-Piece Collection Beginning this April

This April, Adult Swim and Kidrobot, the world's premier creator and retailer of limited edition art toys and apparel, will reveal an all-new line of collectible vinyl toys based on some of the network's most beloved characters. Aqua Teen Hunger Force's Carl, Metalocalypse's Murderface, the Venture Bros., The Monarch and Dr. Girlfriend are just a few of the Adult Swim characters that will be featured in this first-ever Adult Swim and Kidrobot collection. In true "grab bag"-like fashion, fans will have a chance to buy in to the collection without knowing which character they will receive. Each figure will come packaged in an Adult Swim and Kidrobot co-branded box and will be wrapped in foil to prevent anyone from sneaking a peek at which character is enclosed, maintaining the experience and value to the line of figures. Percentage rates will be listed on the side of each box to see the chance of getting a particular figure, and two mystery figures will be included in the set. Each figure will retail for $7.95 and will be available at select retailers in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Latin America.

The full line of Adult Swim figures included in the series is:

• Assy (Assy McGee)
• Avenger (Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law)
• Bird Girl (Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law)
• Carl (Aqua Teen Hunger Force)

•
Dr. Girlfriend (Venture Bros.)
• Early (Squidbillies)
• Grandma (Squidbillies)
• Ignignokt and Err (Aqua Teen Hunger Force)
• Kill Face (Frisky Dingo)
• Lil' (Squidbillies)
• Mad Scientist (Robot Chicken)
•
The Monarch (Venture Bros.)
• Murderface (Metalocalypse)
• Orel (Morel Orel)
• Robot Chicken (Robot Chicken)
• Toki (Metalocalypse)
• Two mystery figures

_____________________________________________________________________

So there you go. Two guaranteed Venture Bros figures coming soon to those lucky enough to find them. As I hear more, I'll make sure to keep passing the information along to you.

And special thanks to holkimcardie1 at the [adult swim] message boards for bringing this info to my attention.

2/23/08 - New Venture Bros T-Shirt Designs

More Venture Bros From StylinOnline

That's right. StylinOnline has got two new designs for Venture Bros, including a Molotov Cocktease design.

And a new design for Hank and Dean's "Go Team Venture!"

If you haven't had the chance to visit www.sylinonline before, you should check it out. They have several different and classic Venture Bros apparel designs for t-shirts and hoodies. All of their products are officially licensed (always look for that). And as an owner of several StylinOnline products, I can attest to their quality and durability. The screen printed images have held up well for me and the shirts are comfortable. You'll find most of their t-shirts are preshrunk and made from 6 oz. weight cotton fabric.

So show your Venture spirit with a neato keen new t-shirt!

1/6/08 - FAN-tastic News • Publick Nuisance Update!

FAN-tastic News

Here is some fantastic news about what some Venture Bros fans are doing across the country.

Kung Fu Zombie of MySpace is working on some computer graphics for Venture Bros. More specifically a 3D model of H.E.L.P.eR. A work in progress, it looks like she's really got a good start on him.

Claudiall has also been busy with her artistic talents. The current PRoV banner was created by her and she has provided a lot of other ones that we will be using in the future. I want to give a special thanks to her for her work. It really helps add to the overall quality of this site and the help is much appreciated.

SpookyChan, known for her Venture Bros fan art, as seen on [adult swim] bumps and here on the PRoV, not only has her work for Sullengrey as colorist getting published, but has also received a contract with Archaia Studio Press for her comic, The God Machine.

Kiven, another fan of Venture Bros, is currently working on filming an independent zombie movie called The Undertakers: Road's End. We wish him the best of luck on this. For anyone interested in what exactly is involved in such a huge undertaking, you can visit his MySpace to find out more about production and the creative process.

Publick Nuisance Update!

As always, Venture fans were treated to another gift of music from Publick and Hammer. This year's song was Fairy Tale of New York as sung by the Monarch and Dr. Girlfriend. You can find it at Quick Stop Entertainment. Also included in Publick's livejournal entry was more wonderful screenshots (full of all sorts of speculative images), production information and a super-neato-keen contest for Venture Bros fans (which had winners within the first few posts). The lucky winners got -

"...ultra-limited edition, not-for-sale-anywhere Venture Bros. American Apparel track jacket! These were produced exclusively for the cast and crew of the show and are available nowhere but my office. They're gray, the front is emblazoned with a white silhouette of the boys in "Go Team Venture" pose, tastefully small across the left breast, and on the back is the Venture Industries logo in full color, as tastelessly large as I could fit it."

So congratulations go out to livejournal members genericus and noah64 for winning.

Also in Publick's most recent entry was the sad news that Stephen Colbert will not be reprising his role as Professor Impossible. But I'm sure that if Publick and Hammer write any scripts with Professor Impossible in them, they'll find an equally talented voice actor to do justice to the role.

And there is more, so much more. So read it all for yourself and enjoy.

12/09/07 - Holiday Shopping: Venture Bros Style - Official Venture Bros Merchandise Now Available! T-Shirts • Calendars • Posters • DVDs

What do you get for the Venture Bros fan who has not very much in the way of Venture Bros merchandise? What can you get that is legitimately manufactured? Believe it or not, there are some sweet items out there that you can pick up for the Dr. Girlfriend or Brock Samson on your holiday list.

Posters - It took a year and a half, but Williams St. has finally gotten their online store up and running again. And while merchandise on the site is still scarce, they do have one item available exclusively for the Venture Bros fan... a poster! This is an 11" x 30" poster featuring the artwork from the season 1 DVD. Painted by comic legend Bill Sienkiewicz, it has become a fan favorite image.  Venture Bros Poster

StylinOnline T-Shirts - Available for a while now, StylinOnline continues to expand their product line with hoodies and babydoll tees added to the catalog. And unlike gasoline prices, these apparel products have not gone up in price, but remain in the affordable $14 - $50 range. You still have time to put them on your Christmas wish list for the holidays. The designs themselves continue to feature the new artwork as well as traditional logos. You currently have 4 design choices.

Venture Bros. Skull T-Shirt, Hoodie, Babydoll Tees - This is the classic t-shirt featuring the white Venture Bros. skull logo on a black background. T-shirts now include babydoll styles as well as youth sizes. The hoodie ranges from small to XXL.

Monarch T-Shirt - This short-sleeved shirt is the same artwork design as the long-sleeved version. The difference is, aside from the sleeve length, the shirt color. Whereas before it was a dark forest green, the shirt is now black.

Team Venture T-Shirt - I have this t-shirt and it always attracts attention wherever I go. It features a silhouette of Hank and Dean in the "Go Team Venture" pose. They stand on top of a pile of skulls, with The Venture Bros. printed in the center. It's very nice and utilizes several visual features associated with the show.

Venture Bros. Character T-Shirt or Hoodie - This black t-shirt (or hoodie) features a design of the four main characters, Hank, Dean, Dr. Venture and Brock on the back and the Venture Bros logo on the front. Done in shades of red, this shirt is one of the few licensed designs featuring Venture Bros characters.

You can find these items currently at Stylin Online.

Happy Shopping!

Calenders! - What better way to enjoy the passage of time than with a Venture Bros calendar. And they are available at Amazon.com. Vivid colors and beautiful animated artwork make this a great gift for friends or yourself. The calendar is approximately 12" square.

DVDs - As always, a Venture Bros DVD makes a wonderful gift for friends and family. You can't have too much laughter in the world today and Venture Bros is laughter on a disk. Fortunately, you can find the Venture Bros DVD in many fine stores, like Best Buy, Target, Wal-Mart, Barnes & Noble, etc... Or simply do your shopping online.

11/22/07 - Jackson Publick Updates His Livejournal • Fun With Billy Quizboy

With an offering of Thanksgiving greetings, Jackson Publick has updated his livejournal with more information on what is going on in both pre- and post-production with Venture Bros season 3. He also mentions that the airdate for season 3 will probably be in June now. But on the goodie side, there is more production artwork for fans to admire, especially if you're a fan of Billy Quizboy.

And in that vein, we have a fun project for you.

Fun With Billy Quizboy!

That's right, it's super happy fun time. If you remember in Escape to the House of Mummies, Billy mentions that he has a Quizboy costume. At Dragon*Con, Doc commented that we'd be seeing it in season 3 and that it was "awful". So here is your chance to have a little fun and create your own version of an outfit for Billy. Let's see how "awful" you can make it. And for this endeavor, Spooky Chan has graciously penned us a nice template to help you get started. Save it and work in photo-paint (or any other graphic program) or print it out and draw right on the paper.  Whichever suits your individual style. Then just post your fashion talents in our very own Fun With Billy Quizboy thread in the forums to share it with others. Just click on the image below to download/print a higher quality version.

BTW, this image will take several minutes to load because it is a large, high quality image. Enjoy!

11/10/07 - PRoV Logo Winner • How to Make a Venture Bros Lunchbox Video

PRoV Logo Winner

Special thanks to everyone who entered the PRoV Logo contest. There were some really great submitted designs, but only one winner. And that would be Meghanjinx!

It's a sweet ride even Brock would be proud of. And for her efforts, Meghanjinx will be receiving a Venture Bros. lunchbox of swaggy goodness including stickers, charms, bookmarks, fridge magnets and other such Venturific items.

How to Make A Venture Bros Lunchbox Video

Want you own Venture Bros lunchbox? Those of you who've been to Dragon*Con or seen the pics, know how nice they are. And fun! If I could make one for everyone I would. But I can't. But I can tell you how I make them and then you can make your own.

We've started making videos to show you hands-on, step by step instructions of the process. It isn't hard and once you know what you're doing, it's rather easy. The video will be divided into three parts: Part I: Taping and Masking, Part II: Painting & Part III: Applying Your Design. So without further ado, we unveil

How To Make A Venture Bros Lunchbox  -  Part I: Taping & Masking.

We hope you enjoy our sucky video.

10/28/07 - New Banner!  • Publick Nusiance Info • PRoV Psycho

Website Updates and Improvements on the way!

But for now, I wanted to give a great big THANK YOU! to Claudiall for designing this banner for the website. So keep an eye out in the future as we start adding some new features, new banners and more "stuff". And if there is something you'd like to see or a feature added, please feel free to contact me and let me know.

Another Update from Jackson Publick

The poor fellow missed his plane to the Bahamas. So he offered us a view of what looks like the inside of the X-1. You can also find within the comments section more artwork by Spooky Chan and from Jackson, a link to other types of fan art (adult content).

PRoV Psycho

For those of you who've been posting or lurking on the PRoV for a while, you'll know that a former PRoV member, ub_iwerks_hot, use to create spoofs of movies featuring various PRoV members. Now, just for Halloween, we have a new PRoV "movie". So feel free to stop by and check it out. You might just find you've been cast in a role.

10/13/07 - PRoV Logo Contest Voting • Publick Nuisance Update

PRoV Logo Contest Voting Begins!

Yes, that's right. We are now voting on the designs submitted for the PRoV logo contest and I do have to say that there were some really great ones submitted. So please check them out and cast your vote for the one you feel best represents the PRoV.

Polling will remain open until Oct 29th

Publick Nuisance Update

Jackson Publick has updated his livejournal and he says that the scripts for season 3 are done!

So we're done with the writing for a while, though, thanks to a number of intriguing plot developments in this last episode, we find ourselves uncharacteristically enthusiastic about starting up the next season as soon as possible.

Sounds like we're in for some interesting fun. For more information about producing the season so far and for some interesting (and beautiful) Venture Compound artwork, make sure to check out Publick's livejournal

Dragon*Con Report - Sunday & Monday

Well, this will be an easy report to write. By this time, my brain was fried and I don't remember much. Sunday did have one panel scheduled with Doc Hammer listed as a guest. But D*C being D*C, change is inevitable and instead the audience got an eyeful of Squidbillies. For anyone who has yet to see The Unknown Hinson in action, he is most definitely Early Cuyler (of Squidbillies). Most people, however, didn't get to see the panel as lines formed early and the room filled somewhat quickly. (Oddly, there was an entire bank of seats that were left empty. Not sure why.) What was left after that was more panels for various other fandoms. Opportunities to just wander and the Masquerade Costume Contest (which seems to have devolved into a form of "talent" show). Hours of wandering around enjoying the outfits, mingling and relaxing.

And by pleasant surprise, I discovered that www.stylinonline.com was at the con. In case you've missed it, that is where you can buy licensed Venture Bros t-shirts. Just do a search on the site. I got a chance to speak with one gentleman who works for them. Hopefully, we will see more Venture Bros. apparel merchandise from them in the future.

The sweet day, however, was Monday. Usually, hubby and I cover each other at the fan table. We rarely get out to look around together. Monday was our opportunity. And the the future of the fan table at Dragon*Con was guaranteed by a corp of volunteer heroes who stepped forward to help me out. After a few hours of wandering through the art show and vendors, it has been  my habit to drive for several hours to get home. Our lives restart early in the morning. Dragon*Con rules state that fan tables must be manned until 4pm. That would have had us home between 9pm and 10pm. We desperately need people to cover the table for us and secure our place at D*C '08. I give out my warmest of thanks to:

David, Jesse, Marc, Anthony, Justin M., Colin L., Ryan K., Patience T. and all the others who dropped by to make sure the table stayed manned. I left you freebies, but it could not begin to express how grateful I was for your help. Thank you, sincerely.

And with that, I leave you with pixilated memories of Dragon*Con 2007 (with more snurched photos. :D Thanks Terry. Thanks Spooky)

9/30/07 - Dragon*Con Report - Saturday

Finally, more of the longest drawn out Dragon*Con report ever. (With more snurched photos from Spooky Chan).

Saturday started with me attempting a new costume. I'm not usually one for face make-up and certainly not one for spandex, but I did it anyway and dressed as Sally Impossible in her invisible mode. And although I found the wig to be itchy and the make-up to be annoying, I have to admit that I was fairly pleased with the outcome.

The first challenge was whether to attend the D*C parade or go to Doc Hammer's panel. Actually, not that difficult a decision. Doc Hammer's panel it was. The opportunity to watch an episode and listen to him doing live commentary was too interesting to miss. Once there, I ran into Spooky Chan, Jim, Cass and Niki. Also there was a newly shaven Dr. Venture as well as a Hank and Dean. And that only begins the costumed adventure.

Before the panel, Ken Plume was there handing out those gorgeous Dr. Girlfriend posters to people as they came in and were seated. Then Doc arrived, looking spiffy as usual, and got things started.

Really, a super awesome time. I wish I could relate more, but with watching Escape to the House of Mummies and its live commentary, I certainly didn't bother to take notes. I just sat back and enjoyed the show. And it was great. I laughed so hard at times, I thought I'd cry and ruin my make-up. And then, the coolest part for me. Because MythBusters was such a popular show and people were already lined up outside Doc's panel awaiting the MythBuster panel to start, we were told that at the end the room would need to be cleared out quickly. That meant for the fan, no hanging around, talking to Doc, getting photos in better light or getting their Dr. G posters autographed. This is Dragon*Con. These things happen. But Doc then asked if anyone from the PRoV was present. So there I am, in my costume, unrecognizable with my hand raised and squeeking out a "yes". Basically, Doc offered to sign the Dr. Girlfriend posters at the People's Republic of Venture fan table in the Hilton. Needless to say, I was stoked.

Awww... Dean is wearing his Scrotal Safety Commission badge.

After the panel, I went back to the fan table to give my husband a much needed break. As a big SG1 and Atlantis fan, he wandered off to see if he could make some of their panels. I sat, relaxed, shmoozed and enjoyed myself. Many old friends came by and we caught up. Many new friends came by too. One new friend was The Murderous Mr. Baker. Don't let the name fool you. He didn't murder anyone while he was there (not to my knowledge anyway). He was one of one persons who contacted me before the con and asked if he could help by covering the fan table for me. Naturally I said yes. So there he is, having missed the panel cause he was in registration, and imagine his surprise to find out that he would get a chance to meet Doc when he showed up at the fan table at 3. The benefits of volunteerism, not to mention that Mr. Baker was awarded the moniker of "bad cop". Or more accurately, "A bad 'bad cop'".

As 3pm approached, many Venture fans began to arrive. Security had already been notified cause some crazy things can happen at Dragon*Con. Some [as] staff had also shown up and were offering their support too, to help keep things organized. Amazingly, Venture fans were really well behaved. Everyone stood in line patiently and behaved. The kept clear of other fan tables and were very peaceful.

So for an hour, Doc sat at the fan table and signed autographs on posters that he provided. That's right. He designed and paid for the printing of all those posters just to give away to Venture fans. A gift, pure and simple. I know I sure as hell appreciated it.

After Doc left, we kind of sat for a while to unwind. Then we got ready for our "Unofficial Fan Discussion Panel". As stated earlier, anything that can happen at D*C will happen. Or what you want to happen, won't. Since the Anime/Animation Track was unable to fix us up with a fan discussion panel, we were going to hold our own. Now, while any panel that has any member of the Venture crew is fun, you can discuss and speculate on those types of panels. Asking Doc what he thinks Dr. Girlfriend was saying at the end of season 2 won't get you far in discussions. So for a fan panel, it's just us fans who get together to hash out our theories, speculate on futures, indulge in plot ideas and generally just do a bit of networking. Surprisingly, we had about 12 - 15 people show up for the panel and I think everyone had a nice time. At the end, as usual, swag was given out for everyone to take and enjoy.

And on a personal note, the gentleman at the panel who suggested I do latex next year with Sally... ok, I laughed at the suggestion, but now I'm seriously thinking about it. But I know squat, so if you read this or have a friend who reads this, contact me at worm1001@yahoo.com. Thanks. ;)

And with that, Saturday ended. People got out of the fan panel in plenty of time to join in on the evening events and parties. I got a chance to get out and mingle with some people. More opportunities for costume photos. And when my feet started to die, we went back to the room.

And now for my...

Dragon*Con 2007 - PRoV Friday Report

Pixilated genitals, the sweetest genitals of all - Dana Snyder

Crazy. Crazy is the best way to describe all that which leads up to a con the size of D*C. Aside from swag and flyers that need to be produced, there are costumes to be made, space to be organized, contacts to be made and some serious packing to be done, all the while making sure that everything that needs to be done at work is done before I leave. Crazy man, electric koolaid acid test crazy.

Friday saw the fan table set up in the Hilton hotel. Placed just outside one of the dealer's rooms, I'd say our spot worked out well. Fashionably dressed in my red speedsuit, hubby and I got ready for the fans and set out the swag. This year, table decorations included more lunchboxes (featuring the fan art of *spookychan*), stickers, more badges and some Guild boxes made to look like handbooks.

Friday was also when the first panel was scheduled for Doc Hammer, Dana Snyder and moderated by Ken Plume. And it was a blast! To begin with, Doc insisted that although Jackson Publick was unable to attend, he did love all of his fans. And to that end, Doc said we would start the panel by observing 10 seconds of silence to think about how much Jackson does love us. That is until someone coughed, so Doc added another 5 seconds of silence so that we may contemplate how marvelous Jackson's hair really is. Then we all got to see the custom posters Doc made specially for Dragon*Con VB fans. And a few lucky panel attendees were lucky enough to get them autographed on the spot. Other somewhat lucky attendees got autographed non-VB items like a Denise Austin's workout video and a Richie Sambora action figure.

From there, questions to Doc and Dana proceeded in an orderly fashion. Actually, an "ABC" order. Dana insisted that all questions asked would be done in alphabetical order. And it had to be questions. Statements, observations and comments leading into questions would not be allowed. Yet in spite of all these restrictions, questions were asked.

(This Q&A session has been paraphrased due to the lack of my memory.)

Q: Can we expect any spinoffs?

A: Like what?

Q: With Dr. Girlfriend.

A: Ok then. C'mon, give me an idea. What is the spinoff? And it has to be a great idea

Q: Ummm... An All Evil Girl Crime League.

A: What?

Q: All Lesbian Evil Girl Crime League.

A: And you think...

Q: Scantily Clad All Lesbian Evil Girl Crime League.

A: Bad idea.

This pretty much segued into a discussion about how ideas, scripts and suggestions offered to them (Doc & Jackson) just won't happen. Even if they wanted them to happen, it won't now because they are not allowed to accept unsolicited material. Legal departments, y'all, they are real sticklers about such things. So if you ever don't want a Venture Bros episode about something, then send in a script about it or keep yelling it out as a suggestion whenever Jackson and Doc walk by. They just cannot accept unsolicited materials and ideas.

Q: Do you think we will see be more Marvel parodies?

A: Maybe. Not. No. Yes

Then Dana got the room buzzing as he revealed that he had seen some of the "models" for the upcoming Kid Robot blind box line and that they do include some Venture Bros figures. But he was silent on what figures he saw. And of course, we have no idea if these figures will be commons or rares.

Many of those asking questions were in awesome costumes. From Brock to the Grand Inquisitor, all sorts came up. And the sight of Dana encouraging an 8 ft. tall costumed person to run to the front for their autographed gift, "Run. Faster. You gotta run. This is a limited offer. Three, two, one.".

Other great tidbits of info include that plans for season 3, according to Doc, "We'll blow it!" and "We are dealing with the Monarch right now and he is fantastic!" And one a side note, we were also told that there will be no more Star Wars jokes. And to enforce that restriction, both Jackson and Doc have agreed that the first one to write in a Star Wars joke will be forced to get their hair cut in the same style they had back in 8th grade.

Thus ended the first VB panel for the convention. So I headed back to the fan table to give my husband a break. Manning the table is always interesting. You get to make new friends and meet people from the years before. This year, I got to finally meet Spooky Chan. Our paths never crossed at D*C last year and for the past 12 months, we had posted occasionally online. So it was cool to finally meet in person.

And with her was her husband Jim, and friends Cass and Niki. The day then ended with some mighty fine people watching at the Hyatt and Marriott, as people came out in their best costumes to style and profile.

9/8/07 - We're Back!

Sorry for all the issues. Unfortunately, our web host decided to do "maintenance & upgrades" on the Thursday before Dragon*Con. Imagine our surprise arriving home on Monday to find out that "maintenance" had now been upgraded to repairs. We have switched over to a new web host, and hopefully things will go smoothly from there. One benefit is that our new host has given us a lot more space, which I hope will lead to more opportunities for this site.

NEW NEWS

8/30/07 - Dragon*Con & Other Great Things!

Doc Hammer at Dragon*Con

Dragon*Con is finally here! Again, the PRoV will have a fan table set up to help spread the VB goodness at Dragon*Con. The convention is also fortunate to have Doc Hammer as a guest this year too. His listed panels are:

Friday 2:30pm in the Regency 6-7 rooms - Hyatt
Saturday 10:00am in the Regency 6-7 rooms - Hyatt
Sunday 2:30pm in the Centennial 1 room - Hyatt

Also attending is Dana Snyder who has several panels as well on both ATHF and Venture Bros.

VB Fan Discussion Panel at D*C

Unfortunately, the Anime/Animation track chose to not schedule a VB fan discussion where fans could talk among themselves, share ideas and just generally have a great time sharing their own insights on the show. But never fear.

Since no VB fan discussion panel (for fans by fans) has been scheduled, we plan to hold our own. Please check with the PRoV fan table on the Marriott mezzanine for specifics and to confirm things. But right now, the idea is to have it in the Marriott in the 10th floor viewing lounge. This will be at 8:30pm on Saturday night. According to the pocket program, this is a bit of a down time (for the most part) and it gives us our best opportunity to get together. So bring a snack or your dinner (great sandwiches in the Marriott deli) and join us for an hour to discuss what we would like to see in season 3, what we thought of season 2 and just share fan thoughts, concepts and ideas in general.

More Publick Updates!

That's right. Jackson Publick has updated his livejournal to include more tidbits of great info as well as more production art. Included are revised images of the Venture kitchen, living room and compound as well as a tantalizing image of a bloody and beaten Jonas Venture Sr. He also discusses the whirlwind pace at which production is moving, with voices being recorded, storyboards in progress, work being shipped to Korea and the writing of scripts that continues.

Also mentioned is the addition of one more bit of Venture Bros. merchandising. Calendars! Next year, you can celebrate all sorts of Venturely goodness with your very own Venture Bros. 2008 calendar. In regards to the images for the calendar, he said:

The main images of the calendar are made up of high-res screenshots from season 2, with our color model sheets providing smaller, incidental images on the actual date pages.

4/14/07 - A Publick Record

At one time, I had a livejournal for the purpose of enjoying some Venture Bros. role playing. It didn't really go anywhere. So what's to be done with an old livejournal? Well, it has now been repurposed. That livejournal will now be dedicated to preserving the livejournal comments of Jackson Publick. Now it may seem redundant since Publick currently has his own livejournal, but he has also deleted many of his entries in order to make room for new ones. What was lost was a wealth of information and tidbits about creating the Venture Bros., the animation process, pop culture notes and other helpful comments regarding the industry in general. So with that in mind, the Publick Record will now be dedicated to creating a record of Publick's livejournal entries and comments. Additional comments such as thanks, observations and kudos by other members of the livejournal community have been removed for quicker and easier reading.

12/25/06 -  Merry Christmas from the Astrobase

Following in an Astrobase*Go tradition, a Venture Bros. Christmas song has been released for your enjoyment. For those who missed it before, there has been versions of The Monarch & Dr. Girlfriend singing Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy and last year featured Henchmen #21 and #24 singing Hard Candy Christmas. This year, however, pulls out the stops with a massive cast of characters  joining in to remade Band Aid's Do They Know It's Christmas. You can find all the songs at Quick Stop Entertainment.

Quick Stop Entertainment

Special thanks to ub_iwerks_hot for providing this info here on our message boards and at the [adult swim] message boards.

And we here at the People's Republic of Venture also wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, filled with joy and love.

12/8/06 - ToyFare Venture Bros Article

While you're running around trying to get your Christmas shopping done, make sure to also pick up this months ToyFare (February 2007 #114). Composed as a summery of every episode from season one and two, the article also includes comments about the episodes by Jackson Publick, Doc Hammer and James Urbaniak as they share their memories about the episodes. And an additional gem of information includes Publick's thoughts and feelings on the idea of a Venture Bros. movie.

"It's definitely something I think about, because I just flat-out love movies more than I love cartoons. I'd love to lavish 90 minutes of Venture Bros. animation with all the care and attention you get to invest in an animate featured but..."

11/23/06 - Official Venture Bros Merchandise Now Available!

As the holidays approach, Santa comes a little early for the VB fans. Now available are some cool new t-shirts and designs. And while prices do remain in the $17 - $45 range, you can still have time to put them on your Christmas wish list for the holidays. The designs themselves feature new artwork as well as traditional logos. You currently have 5 choices.

Venture Bros. Hooded Sweatshirt - This black sweatshirt features the classic Venture Bros. skull logo.

Monarch T-Shirt - This short-sleeved shirt is the same artwork design as the long-sleeved version. The difference is, aside from the sleeve length, the shirt color. Whereas before it was a dark forest green, the shirt is now black.

Venture Bros. Skull T-Shirt - This is the classic t-shirt featuring the white Venture Bros. skull logo on a black short-sleeved t-shirt.

Team Venture T-Shirt - This t-shirt, I believe, is a new product. It features a silhouette of Hank and Dean in the "Go Team Venture" pose. They stand on top of a pile of skulls, with The Venture Bros. printed in the center. It's very nice and utilizes several visual features associated with the show.

Venture Bros. Character T-Shirt - This black t-shirt features a design of the four main characters, Hank, Dean, Dr. Venture and Brock. Done in shades of red, this shirt will hopefully be the preview for more artistic designs to come.

You can find these items currently at Stylin Online.

Happy Shopping!

9/19/06 - Featured Link - Taming Light: The Work of Bob McNeil

Feel free to check out our Links page and there you'll find a link to one of the background painters for Venture Bros. season 2. Taming Light is the name of the studio and Bob McNeil is the man in charge. Like many natural artists, traditional schooling set the groundwork, but it was the self taught skills that defined his technique and gave him the style which has put his work in demand.

As you view his gallery, you'll see scenes from the Venture Bros. episodes Assassinanny 911, Victor. Echo. November and 20 Years to Midnight. Images there include the backgrounds of Hunter's office, Quest's bathysphere, a submarine, interiors of the Micronesian temple and a Venture Industries storage room. And take a moment to browse through the rest of his art gallery where you'll see works from various projects such as his illustration work, entertainment art for video productions and games, films and animation, as well as graphic design work on logos, websites, packaging and other multimedia.

9/15/06 - Dragon*Con 2006: The Sunday & Monday Reports

With the help of snurched photos, here is the last of it.

It was an early day on Sunday. There was a Venture Bros fan discussion panel held at 9am. Yes! Nine in the morning! I can honestly say, I expected the room to be empty. It wasn't. By 8:30am, people were walking in to take their seats. And we all learned a little secret on how to save money on hotel rooms at D*C.

That's right. Walking past the water station and heading into the room, we see that someone got sick on the floor. Then we hear the snoring and see a foot sticking out from under the drape. lol Power to him. It still must have made for a long day.

Well the panel started early and we had a good time just talking and chatting about VB, what we wanted to see, what we suspected, who our favorite characters were. And freebies! Yes we had freebies to hand out. Stickers, flyers, badges, key chain tags and a couple of VB t-shirts bought at the [as].com site. Lots of fun.

After the panel, it was just relaxing at the PRoV fan table. This was a day where there weren't any panels scheduled with Publick and Hammer. There were a few panels on Stargate and MythBusters my husband wished to see. And I got to do some casual browsing of the exhibit halls and vendor rooms.

Publick and Hammer did stop and say "hey" as they headed to the Comic Artist room. I also got a chance to speak with a few more comic artists who stopped by the fan table, including Sienkiewicz and Brian Stelfreeze. Given the excitement and the fun and the great fans of VB who came by the fan table to talk and chat, time flew by. And at 7pm, we packed up the table to get ready to see the Dragon*Con Masquerade Costume Contest.

For those of you not aware, the Masquerade is the grand costume contest of Dragon*Con. This is the big event that the fans attend and is televised to all the hotel rooms. It never fails to please (although I do have to admit this year it did turn into an amateur talent show as well). But it was the skill in the costuming that showed who the winners were.

A quiet day, all in all, for Sunday. And now only one day left to go... and not much to say about it. Monday we spent in the art gallery and on the walk of fame. Our last fan discussion panel was at 1pm. So we finally got to relax and be "off" for a while. And as usual, inspite of the late time of day, the VB fans showed up to the panel in droves. Lots and lots of fans were there. And a hearty big thank you to each who attended. You know who you are.

I was dressed in my lovely blue speedsuit for the occasion. And we talked again, chatted some more and just enjoyed the day. Kudos to the fans who made me crack up. The comments there were making on Phantom Limb gave much food for thought (and will surely be the topic of someone's slash fanfic). Once again, freebies were given. Our wonderful track director Molly was on hand to witness the event (and received her goodie bag too). There were stickers, badges, [as] VB t-shirts and [as] VB tote bags handed out. And as we discussed our loves and hates, ideas and ponderings... my husband was upstairs saying goodbye to Publick and Hammer as they got ready to leave Atlanta. Lucky dog. ;)

And there you have it. My Dragon*Con experiences for 2006. And it's not too early to start planning on D*C 2007.

I've bought my tickets already.
